RENAMED CITY at RWA BRISTOL I was invited by Fiona Robinson PRWA to create a large-scale piece of work for the “Found Cities, Lost Objects: Women in the City” exhibition curated by Turner Prize-winner and cultural activist Lubaina Himid CBE, during its tenure at the Royal West of England Academy. The exhibition - all women artists - included works by invited Bristol-based artists alongside works from the Arts Council Collection.
A work from the “Renamed City” body of work was recreated, at scale: digitally printed on a bedsheet and then further mixed media worked into the surface. The work was designed to bring to mind and echo the ‘homemade’ creation process traditionally used in the long history of grass roots protests. The domestic nature of the bedcover used ties in with my ongoing exploration of the ‘domestic artist’. The work was exhibited at RWA Bristol 29 May - 30 August, 2023.
