Since the birth of my daughter a decade ago, the genesis of my work has been shaped by the borders of the domiciliary: digital works manifesting themselves in the memorabilia - and subsequently - the fabrics of a home. First: family photographs; then: linens, bedcovers, towels, tissues, napkins…’Artifex Domestica’…Domestic as a noun and an adjective.
The personal and the public; the inner life and the public face; the inside and outside of a home. Domestic spaces are work spaces. Domestic objects, clothing, are materials.
Initially, I used an exploration of practice and medium - digital, 3D, photography - to process what it looks like to be a practicing artist post-motherhood. This has evolved into an examination of the boundaries, judgements and prejudices surrounding the use of new media and technologies in art - and by extension, the same boundaries, judgements and prejudices I encounter in my life and practice.
