Mellony Taper is a multidisciplinary fine artist. She works across painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, typography and digital creative technologies.
Her current work explores human perceptions of time, memory and identity through layers of traditional and new media, to create multi dimensional pieces that defy fixed notions of time and place.
Fascinated by how traditional media meets new and where you can place that point, Mellony creates, merges and fuses media - for example, oil painting, photography, drawing - in an alchemical process to create works she thinks of as palimpsests, or ghost signs: layers upon layers, partially obliterated, layered again, written and overwritten, creating something new, with glimpses of the past visible.
An alumna of the Wimbledon School of Art, Mellony Taper is also a free-lance arts writer and reviewer, and school visiting artist.
In 2016, she co-founded typographic design house New Icons of Print with designer Rebecca Butwell.
She is a member of the Royal West of England Academy Artists’ Network, Black Swan Guild, Devon Artist Network and Somerset Artworks.
Her work is represented in private collections across the UK and internationally.
She divides her time between Devon and Bristol, UK.
